I speak with people all the time who are confused or just don’t know if and when they can change their Medicare Advantage Plans or get out of their Medicare Advantage Plans .
So here it is:
Initial Enrollment Period(IEP)– The IEP is 3 months before, the month of and 3 months after your 65th birthday.
Annual Election Period(AEP)– The AEP is October 15 thru December 7. During AEP, a person who is enrolled in an MA or an MAPD may switch to another MA or MAPD plan or return to Original Medicare and select a Prescription Drug Plan (PDP). These changes will go into effect on January 1st of the upcoming year.
Annual Disenrollment Period (ADP)– The ADP is January 1 thru February 14. MA or MAPD plan members may disenroll and ONLY return to Original Medicare. They may also enroll in a Part D plan during this period even if their MA plan did not include prescription drug coverage
Special Election Period(SEP)- SEP’s vary according to specific situations. To see if you qualify for one, please call me.
